Introduction

APTO Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) works to solve customer business challenges and social issues surrounding customers through platform development related to AI development, provision of training data, AI consulting services, etc. (collectively referred to as “the Services”).

Since around 2022, generative AI has widely permeated society, and AI utilization has become very active both in companies and by individuals. However, while AI utilization by consumers is expanding, there are increasing cases of misuse, such as some generative AI development companies training data without obtaining permission from data providers, or copyright infringement using generative AI by organizations or individuals.

In light of this, we have established this AI Policy to contribute to AI development in a socially sincere and legitimate manner and to build a world where everyone can use AI soundly.

This policy sets forth guidelines for promoting the appropriate use of AI in our company, and we will comply with the following principles and promote the establishment of AI governance.

1) Human-Centric AI Design

  • Through the provision of the Services, we strive not to infringe on human rights guaranteed by the constitution or internationally recognized bodies. We also respect human dignity and individual autonomy, avoid using AI for the purpose of unfairly manipulating human decision-making or emotions, and strive to prevent excessive dependence or control.
  • We recognize the risk that disinformation, misinformation, and biased information may destabilize and confuse society, take necessary measures, and strive to ensure universal design and accessibility so that more people can enjoy the benefits of AI.
  • We will also consider the impact on the global environment throughout the lifecycle of the Services and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

2) Safety and Reliability

  • Through the provision of the Services, we strive not to cause harm to the life, body, property, mind, or environment of stakeholders.
  • We strive to ensure that data provided through the Services does not infringe on the intellectual property rights or other rights of third parties, and we will respond appropriately if there is a claim of infringement from a third party.
  • We ensure the accuracy and currency of data provided to customers, give consideration to human life, body, property, mind, and environment, and as an AI service provider, implement risk measures such as maintaining performance under expected usage conditions at the time of provision and considering methods to minimize risks.

3) Fairness

  • We strive to eliminate unfair and harmful prejudice and discrimination based on diverse backgrounds such as race, gender, nationality, age, political beliefs, religion, etc., against specific individuals or groups.
  • We respect all stakeholders and their diversity, and to prevent human rights violations and unfair discrimination due to the use of AI, we consider biases included in each component technology of the AI model (training data, learning process of AI model, input prompts, reference information, external services, etc.), and for unavoidable biases, identify their factors and maintain an explainable state.

4) Privacy Protection

  • In providing the Services, we respect and protect privacy in accordance with our Privacy Policy and internal regulations. If third-party personal information, etc., is included in the Services, we implement measures for privacy protection, such as introducing mechanisms to manage and restrict access to personal information.
  • When using personal information for training data, etc., we anonymize and compile statistics as much as possible to prevent unauthorized access or leakage by third parties.

5) Security Assurance

  • Throughout the process of providing the Services, we appropriately manage risks in light of the characteristics of the adopted technology and implement security measures.
  • Recognizing that new methods of external attacks on the Services are emerging daily, we strive to pay attention to the latest trends and take measures.

6) Transparency

  • To ensure the verifiability of the basis for AI decisions and deliverables, we record and store processes such as the development process of the AI system, input/output during use, AI learning methods, inference processes, basis for judgment, data sources, etc., within a reasonable range.
  • We provide information to diverse stakeholders on facts about AI use, scope of application, technical characteristics, performance, foreseeable risks and mitigation measures, causes of defects and response status, update details and reasons, etc., in a timely and appropriate manner within a range recognized as socially reasonable while respecting privacy and trade secrets.

7) Accountability

  • We strive to improve traceability by ensuring a state where data sources and decisions made during the provision of the Services can be traced and sought back within a technically possible and reasonable range.
  • We formulate and document policies on risk management associated with the use of the Services, AI governance for ensuring safety, privacy policy, etc., and regularly provide information and explanations to stakeholders on implementation status and responses to biases included in AI models, etc.
  • We establish responsible persons and clarify the locus of responsibility among concerned parties.

8) Education and Literacy

  • We provide necessary education, considering generation gaps, so that those involved in our AI have the knowledge, literacy, and ethical sense to correctly understand AI and use it correctly in society. We also strive to provide education to stakeholders as necessary, considering the complexity of AI, characteristics of misinformation, and possibility of misuse.

9) Ensuring Fair Competition

  • We strive to maintain a fair competitive environment and trading environment regarding AI so that new businesses and services utilizing AI are created, and sustainable economic growth is maintained and solutions to social issues are presented.

10) Innovation

  • We strive to contribute to the promotion of innovation in society as a whole.
  • We promote the development and adoption of international technical standards, challenge new AI technologies and services, and strive to sincerely face and overcome issues that AI brings to society.

11) Continuous Improvement

  • We will regularly review this policy in light of changes in legal systems, technological trends, and social demands, and adapt it to the latest ethical and technical standards.
